Cancel GitHub Pro or Team from Settings under Billing and licensing: find Current plan, select Edit and choose Downgrade to Free. It takes about 3 minutes, and paid features remain available through the end of the current billing cycle before the plan changes to GitHub Free. GitHub does not prorate a cancellation or downgrade.

For a personal plan, open Settings and then Billing and licensing. For Team, open the organization Settings and then Billing and licensing.

Open Current plan

Choose Additional billing details when shown, find Current plan and select Edit.

Choose Downgrade to Free

Select the downgrade option for the personal account or organization.

Confirm the downgrade

Review the feature impact and confirm. The plan changes at the end of the current billing cycle.

A plan downgrade keeps the account but removes paid-plan features at the end of the cycle. Personal account deletion is permanent, with profile and repository content normally deleted within 90 days subject to stated exceptions.
