Open Atlassian billing
Go to admin.atlassian.com/billing and select the billing account that contains Bitbucket Cloud.

Open the Bitbucket subscription
Select Subscriptions, find Bitbucket Cloud, and select Manage.

Choose Deactivate
Open More actions and select Deactivate.

Confirm deactivation
Review the consequences and confirm the cancellation.
Deactivation is different from a downgrade to Free. Use the workspace plan-change flow if you want to retain a usable free workspace.
Workspace admins can change Bitbucket plans. Billing, Organization, and Site admins can deactivate in the improved billing system.

A workspace admin can instead open Workspace settings, select Plan details, and choose Change plan.

On the Bitbucket Cloud plans page, select Free and complete the confirmation flow to keep the workspace under Free limits.

Reduce workspace access if needed
Free allows five users. With more than five, private repositories become read-only for non-admin users until access is reduced or the plan is upgraded.

Initial monthly cloud purchases can be refunded only during the first paid month after trial. New annual cloud subscriptions can be refunded within 30 days of first purchase. Cloud renewals and upgrades are not refundable, and ordinary mid-cycle cancellation receives no credit.
Is there a cheaper way to stay?
Workspace admins can change Standard or Premium to Free. Free has a five-user limit; with more than five users, private repositories become read-only for non-admin users until the workspace returns within the limit.
Can I pause instead of cancel?
No subscription pause is documented in the official Bitbucket plan, Atlassian deactivation, refund, or billing-cycle pages reviewed on 2026-08-08. The documented choices are deactivation or a change to Free.
What happens to my account data?
Subscription deactivation and workspace deletion are separate. Atlassian says deactivated product data is retained for a plan-dependent period but publishes no Bitbucket-specific duration on that page. Workspace deletion is irreversible and deletes all repositories. User-account deletion has a 14-day grace period, followed by personal-data deletion within 30 days subject to legal or business retention requirements.
