Step-by-step instructions

Twilio is mainly pay-as-you-go. A soft close is useful when you want recurring resources released but still need historical project data.

1
Open General settings

The account Owner opens Console > Account > Account Management > General settings.

2
Click Close and authenticate

At the bottom, click Close. Authenticate with the account password if Twilio asks.

3
Choose full closure or soft close

Choose DELETE ALL ACCOUNT DATA AND SETTINGS for permanent closure, or KEEP ACCOUNT DATA AND SETTINGS BUT STOP RECURRING CHARGES to release recurring resources while keeping project history accessible.

4
Confirm the closure

Continue through the confirmation. Full closure immediately stops the account and its subaccounts.

Full closure is permanent, immediately stops APIs and communications, and releases account resources.

Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data

Four questions people ask before they cancel
Can I get my money back?

Closing an upgraded account with a positive prepaid balance automatically starts a full refund that can take up to 10 business days. Promotional-code balances and trial balances are not refunded.

Refund possible
Is there a cheaper way to stay?

Twilio's core platform has no lower fixed paid tier: the account can be soft-closed to stop recurring resources while retaining data, or remain open with usage reduced to zero. Paid support plans can be cancelled back to free support.

Can I pause instead of cancel?

A soft close stops recurring charges and keeps account data and settings accessible for a later return. It releases paid resources such as phone numbers, short codes and SIMs, and some subscriptions must still be cancelled separately.
