How do I cancel Segment?

Short answer
Cancel Segment from Settings > Usage & Billing > Plans, or delete the workspace from Workspace Settings > General Settings. It takes a few minutes; workspace deletion is irrevocable after 5 days. Monthly Team plans get a prorated final bill; Segment does not refund prepaid annual time after the trial.

What you are cancelling
Twilio Segment Connections collects customer events and sends them to destinations and warehouses. This is not Twilio SMS, Voice or SendGrid. This guide covers every place the subscription can live - the website and team plans - plus what happens to refunds, pausing and your data afterwards.

Sign in to the Segment workspace
Open app.segment.com. Changing the plan is a workspace action, not a user-account action.

Open Settings, then Usage & Billing, then Plans
If you already have a Segment workspace, change which plan it is on from Settings > Usage & Billing > Plans.

Cancel or downgrade to Free
Follow the plan-change prompts on that page. Exact button labels after Plans are not published. Cancelling or downgrading during the 2-week Team trial incurs no charges.

Stop data flow if you are on an annual plan
If you cancel an annual plan but keep sending data, you may still incur MTU overage charges. Fully delete the workspace or cycle write keys to stop data flow.
Deleting your Segment login does not cancel the workspace subscription.
Team is credit-card self-serve. Business is invoice and contact sales.

Deleting a user account does not cancel billing
Deleting your account only stops that login. The workspace still holds the subscription and will still be charged.

Delete the workspace if you want the workspace gone
Go to Workspace Settings, open the General Settings tab, then click Delete Workspace. Segment irrevocably deletes the workspace 5 days later. Revoke Workspace Deletion is available during those 5 days.

Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data
Four questions people ask before they cancelCan I get my money back?
In most cases Segment does not offer refunds. Monthly Team: if you cancel or downgrade before the end of the billing period you get a final prorated bill for the $120 base plus MTU over the included 10,000. Annual Team: Segment does not issue refunds for the prepaid year after the trial ends.
Is there a cheaper way to stay?
Change plan at Settings > Usage & Billing > Plans. Downgrading to Free during the 14-day Team trial incurs no charges. Exceeding Free's 1,000 MTU limit once in 6 months locks the UI but data can still flow; a second overage in 6 months also stops data.
Can I pause instead of cancel?
No pause option is documented. You can downgrade to the Free plan from Settings > Usage & Billing > Plans.
What happens to my account data?
Segment irrevocably deletes a workspace 5 days after you click Delete Workspace. Deleted sources and workspaces cannot be recovered. Deleting a user account does not delete the workspace or stop charges.
Frequently asked questions
Does deleting my Segment login cancel the bill?
No. The workspace holds the subscription. Delete or downgrade the workspace plan, or you will still be charged.
What do I pay if I cancel a monthly Team plan mid-cycle?
A final prorated bill for the $120 base plus any MTUs over the included 10,000, at the rates on the pricing page.
Can I get a refund on an annual Team plan?
No. Segment does not refund the prepaid annual amount after the trial ends.
How long do I have to undo workspace deletion?
5 days. Open Workspace Settings > General Settings and click Revoke Workspace Deletion.
Is this the same as cancelling Twilio SMS?
No. Twilio Segment is billed in the Segment workspace. Twilio communications accounts close from the Twilio Console, which is a different product.
Is there a free plan after I cancel Team?
Yes. You can downgrade to Free (1,000 MTUs). Exceeding that limit can lock the account.
