GroqCloud inference API for open and third-party AI models, billed pay-as-you-go on the Developer tier. This is Groq (groq.com), not xAI Grok. This guide covers every place the subscription can live - the website and team plans - plus what happens to refunds, pausing and your data afterwards.

Developer billing is pay-as-you-go in arrears. Downgrading to Free is the self-serve way to stop usage charges.

Sign in to the Groq Console
Open console.groq.com with the account that holds Developer billing.

Open Settings, then Billing

Downgrade to the Free tier
You can downgrade to the Free tier at any time. Follow the prompts shown on the Billing page.

Pay the final invoice
Groq issues a final invoice for any outstanding usage that has not yet been billed. You must pay that invoice before the downgrade is complete. Usage-based charges then stop immediately.

Spend limits require a paid-tier account and organization owner permissions, at Settings, Billing, Limits.

Order-form contracts use written notice
The Services Agreement lets the customer terminate for convenience at any time on prior written notice, subject to financial commitments in an Order Form. Invoice customers pay by the Payment Due Date.

Account deletion is a privacy request
Ask Groq to delete your account and corresponding personal information at [email protected]. Service Credits expire automatically if the customer closes its Account and cannot be recovered.

Refunds are handled case by case through [email protected]. The Services Agreement says the obligation to pay Fees is non-cancellable unless required by law. Billing inaccuracies reviewed in Groq's favor are credited as Cloud Services credit. Service Credits are not redeemable or refundable and expire 1 year after purchase or issuance, or immediately if the account is closed.
Is there a cheaper way to stay?
You can downgrade to the Free tier at any time from Settings under Billing. After you pay the final invoice, the account returns to Free tier rate limits, Developer benefits stop, and usage-based charges stop immediately. You can upgrade again later.
Can I pause instead of cancel?
No account-level pause is documented. You can set, edit, or remove a monthly spend limit, which blocks new API access when hit and resets on the 1st of the month. You can also stop using the Cloud Services at any time.
What happens to my account data?
By default Groq does not retain inference inputs or outputs. Usage metadata is always retained and does not include customer inputs or outputs. Batch files are kept 30 days unless deleted sooner. Fine-tuning data is kept until you delete it. After agreement or Order Form termination, Groq deletes Customer Data within 30 days unless the Order Form or law requires longer retention.
