Step-by-step instructions

All Squarespace subscriptions are independent. Cancel the website and each unwanted add-on separately.

1
Open the site's Billing panel

Under Subscriptions, select the website plan you want to end.

2
Select Cancel subscription

Review Cancellation details. Choose Retain Access, or Get Refund Immediately when that eligible option is shown, then select Continue.

3
Complete the cancellation form

Choose a reason, then complete or skip the feedback prompts with Next.

4
Review other subscriptions

Domains, Google Workspace, Acuity, and other independent subscriptions can continue billing and must be managed separately.

5
Confirm the cancellation

Select Cancel subscription on the final screen. Monthly service ends at the cycle end; annual cancellation ends service immediately.

Annual website cancellation takes the site offline immediately. Export needed content before confirming.

Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data

Four questions people ask before they cancel
Can I get my money back?

Squarespace automatically refunds an annual website subscription canceled within 14 days of its first payment. It does not refund monthly plans, renewal payments, or annual first payments after 14 days. A non-refundable domain registration amount can be deducted when the annual plan included a free domain.

Refund possible
Is there a cheaper way to stay?

Squarespace has no ongoing free website plan. When the subscription ends, the site becomes private and search engines stop indexing it. The owner retains limited access to billing, domain, commerce, export, and permissions panels and can reactivate on a current plan.

Can I pause instead of cancel?

Squarespace does not document pausing the website subscription itself. You can unpublish or hide a site while billing continues. Digital Products can pause for 30 days after the website ends, but that is a separate subscription behavior.

What happens to my account data?

Cancellation preserves site data for possible reactivation and is not permanent deletion. A site can be permanently deleted only after subscriptions are canceled or expired. Account deletion is separate, irreversible, and removes owned sites, content, subscriptions, and linked personal data, subject to legally required retention.

Frequently asked questions

Answers checked with the steps above
Does Squarespace cancellation take effect immediately?

Annual website cancellation ends service immediately. Monthly cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle.

Can I get a Squarespace website refund?

A first annual website payment is refundable when canceled within 14 days. Monthly plans and renewal payments are not refundable.

Does cancelling the website also cancel my domain or Acuity?

No. Squarespace subscriptions are independent, so domains, Google Workspace, Acuity, and other services must be reviewed separately.

Can I pause a Squarespace website plan?

Squarespace does not document a website billing pause. Unpublishing or hiding the site leaves the subscription active.

Will Squarespace delete my site when I cancel?

No. The site becomes private and its data is preserved for reactivation. Permanent site deletion is a separate action.

Can I restore a legacy Squarespace plan?

No. A canceled legacy plan cannot be reactivated on the same legacy tier; reactivation uses a current plan.
