Step-by-step instructions

This flow cancels a site plan by switching it to Sandbox. Gold workspace cancellation is not documented the same way, and workspaces cannot be deleted.

1
Open the Site Dashboard as Site Owner

Only the Site Owner or an Organization Administrator can change the site plan.

2
Open Site Settings, then Manage site plan

Click Site Settings. In Site Details, click Manage site plan.

3
Click Switch to free plan

Use the Switch to free plan link to cancel the current paid plan.

4
Confirm the downgrade

Select a reason, check Yes, cancel my plan, and click Confirm downgrade.

5
Remove the site payment method

Remove the card used for that site. You can delete the remaining Sandbox site afterward from Settings, Delete Site.

Downgrading to Sandbox immediately deletes custom domains and turns off automatic backups. No prorated refund is issued.

Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data

Four questions people ask before they cancel
Can I get my money back?

Site plan downgrades change resources immediately. The next billing cycle is charged at the new plan. Pantheon says no prorated refunds or credits are issued for site downgrades. Annual plans auto-renew unless terminated in advance.

No refunds
Is there a cheaper way to stay?

Downgrades apply immediately to resources and features. Custom domains are automatically deleted if you drop to Sandbox. Disable Object Cache and Pantheon Search before selecting Basic. Automatic backups stop on Sandbox. Upgrades charge a prorated remainder of the current period immediately.

Free tier exists
Can I pause instead of cancel?

No site-plan pause is documented. You can downgrade to Sandbox or delete the site after that downgrade.

Not available
What happens to my account data?

Cancelling the paid plan leaves a Sandbox site unless you delete it: Settings, Delete Site, then confirm Delete This Site. Workspaces cannot be deleted. Custom domains are removed when the site becomes Sandbox.

Immediately for resources and features. The next invoice uses the Sandbox plan. No prorated refund is issued.

Who can cancel?

The Site Owner or an Organization Administrator.

Do I keep a free site?

Yes, unless you delete it. Sandbox cannot use custom domains and shows an interstitial warning page.

What about annual billing?

Annual plans auto-renew unless terminated in advance. Switching annual to monthly takes effect after the current annual term ends.
