Step-by-step instructions

Subscription management is documented, but cancel button labels are not. The labeled close-account control is Permanently remove my account.

1
Sign in as Admin or Billing admin

Admin can edit billing and organization settings. Billing admin can access subscription management, invoices and payment settings, and cannot access operational features.

2
Open subscription management

Admins and Billing admins can access subscription management, invoices and payment settings. Exact cancel or downgrade button labels on that billing surface are not published. Follow the prompts shown there to stop paid responder licenses or usage.

3
Do not treat holiday mode as a cancel

Holiday mode only suspends alerts and notifications until a chosen date. It is not documented as stopping subscription billing.

4
To close the account, permanently remove it

Go to Settings, then Account settings. Scroll to Permanently remove your account and click Permanently remove my account. This cannot be reverted. Contact [email protected] if you need help.

Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data

Four questions people ask before they cancel
Can I get my money back?

The pricing page advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee. The Terms of Use say Better Stack has no obligation to refund amounts previously paid when it terminates or denies access. How to request the 60-day guarantee is not spelled out beyond contacting [email protected].

Refund possible
Is there a cheaper way to stay?

A Free personal-project tier exists. The public docs do not publish a paid-plan downgrade button. Changing a user to Member or Billing admin does not automatically reduce responder licenses. Manage licenses under Settings, then Usage, then Responders.

Free tier exists
Can I pause instead of cancel?

Holiday mode suspends alerts and notifications. It is not documented as a subscription pause. Maintenance windows pause monitoring behaviour, not billing.

What happens to my account data?

Permanently removing the account cannot be reverted. The DPA says that when processing ends, Better Stack must return Customer Personal Data or securely destroy it, at the customer's choice, unless law requires keeping some of it. Free-tier logs and traces are retained 3 days. Telemetry bundles include 30-day logs retention.
