Short answer

Screaming Frog SEO Spider licences do not auto renew by default; if auto renewal is enabled, cancel it under Subscriptions after logging in at screamingfrog.co.uk. What you are cancelling

Desktop website crawler for technical SEO audits, sold as a per-user annual licence rather than a monthly subscription. This guide covers every place the subscription can live - the website - plus what happens to refunds, pausing and your data afterwards.

Step-by-step instructions

Screaming Frog is desktop software with a one-year licence, not a monthly subscription. Unless you opted into auto renewal at purchase, the licence just lapses on its own.

1
Check whether you enabled auto renewal

By default SEO Spider licences are not set to auto renew - the licence simply expires naturally at the end of the one-year period. If you never ticked the auto renew checkbox at purchase, there is nothing to cancel and no notice to give.

2
Log in to your Screaming Frog account

Sign in at screamingfrog.co.uk/login, the account area for your licence keys and invoices.

3
Open Subscriptions

View Subscriptions in your account to see whether auto renewal is enabled on your licence.

4
Cancel the auto renewal

If auto renewal is enabled you can cancel it there. The licence then runs until its expiry date. If you leave auto renew on, Screaming Frog emails you prior to renewal confirming the details.

Buying a new licence before expiry does not extend your current one - Screaming Frog says to purchase the renewal on expiry, not before.

Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data

Four questions people ask before they cancel
Can I get my money back?

Screaming Frog offers a 14-day money-back guarantee: if you are not completely satisfied you can get a full refund by contacting them within 14 days of purchase. There are no pro rata refunds for any period of non-use of a licence. Refunds go back to the original payment method and can take 3-5 working days to be processed by Braintree and the banks.

Refund possible
Is there a cheaper way to stay?

When the licence expires, the SEO Spider returns to the restricted free version: the 500 URL maximum crawl limit is reinstated, configuration options become unavailable, and previously saved crawls cannot be opened. Basic crawling keeps working free of charge. To keep the paid features you purchase a new one-year licence on expiry; both new and renewed licences cost the same.

Free tier exists
Can I pause instead of cancel?

No pause option is documented in Screaming Frog's FAQ, pricing pages or licence terms.

Not available
What happens to my account data?

The SEO Spider is downloadable desktop software, so crawl files are saved by the app on your own machine rather than on a Screaming Frog server. After expiry the free version cannot open previously saved crawls until a valid licence is entered again. Your online account remains accessible for licence keys and invoices; no account deletion process is documented on the public site.

Frequently asked questions

Answers checked with the steps above
Does a Screaming Frog licence renew automatically?

No. By default licences are not set to auto renew and simply expire at the end of the one-year period. Auto renewal only applies if you ticked the auto renew checkbox when purchasing.

Do I need to give notice or email Screaming Frog to cancel?

No. There is no notice period and you do not need to email them - a non-auto-renewing licence just expires on its own.

How do I stop an auto-renewing licence?

Log in to your Screaming Frog account, open Subscriptions to check whether auto renewal is enabled, and cancel it there.

What happens when my licence expires?

The SEO Spider returns to the restricted free version: a 500 URL crawl limit, restricted configuration, and previously saved crawls can no longer be opened.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase there is a full money-back guarantee. Outside that window there are no pro rata refunds for non-use.

Is there a monthly subscription?

No. Licences last one year at 199 GBP ($279 USD / 245 EUR) per user, and renewing means buying a new licence on expiry.
