Step-by-step instructions

Only the Account Owner can cancel. Downgrades go through Sales.

1
Only the Account Owner can cancel or see billing

The Account Owner is the only user with access to billing-related information and the only user who can cancel the account.

2
Downgrade through Sales, not the cancel flow

To change to a lower pricing plan instead of deleting the account, reach out to the Sales team. Cancel my Account permanently deletes the account rather than moving it to Free.

3
Annual and invoice customers give non-renewal notice

Each Order Form is non-cancellable and non-refundable except as the agreement or Order Form provides. To downgrade or not renew, send notice to [email protected] at least 30 days before the auto-renewal date. Invoice yearly prepayment is set up through Sales. Reducing purchased license count is also an email to [email protected] and applies on the following month's invoice.

Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data

Four questions people ask before they cancel
Can I get my money back?

The cancel-account article says yearly accounts do not get prorated refunds. The Terms of Service say each Order Form is non-cancellable and non-refundable except as the agreement or that Order Form provides. If the customer terminates for cause, PagerDuty refunds prepaid fees for the remainder of the Subscription Term after the termination date.

No refunds
Is there a cheaper way to stay?

Downgrading the pricing plan is done by contacting Sales. Cancelling the account does not leave a Free plan: access ends immediately and the account is deleted. A separate Free plan exists for new sign-ups (up to 5 users) and is not the documented result of Cancel my Account. Removing users does not lower the month-to-month bill by itself because the charge uses a high-water mark of full users.

Can I pause instead of cancel?

No subscription pause or billing-hold option is documented. Pausing or deactivating an on-call schedule is not a billing pause.

Not available
What happens to my account data?

Cancelling the account permanently deletes the account and all related data, immediately, with no recovery. Paid historic data access while the account is live is 3 months on Professional and 1 year on Business.

Frequently asked questions

Answers checked with the steps above
Who can cancel PagerDuty?

Only the Account Owner. Other users will not see Account Settings under the user icon.

When does cancellation take effect?

Immediately. You lose access at once. The account cannot be reactivated.

Can I get a refund?

Not on a yearly account. PagerDuty says it does not offer prorated refunds. Order Forms are non-cancellable and non-refundable except as the terms or the Order Form say.

Does cancelling leave me on the Free plan?

No. Cancel my Account deletes the account and its data. Downgrading to another paid plan goes through Sales.

How do I lower the user count without deleting the account?

Email [email protected] with the desired license count. The change shows on the following month's invoice. Deleting users alone does not lower the high-water-mark charge.

Can I cancel from the iOS or Android app?

No. Removing an account from the mobile app only unlinks that device login. Cancellation is in the web app Account Settings tab.
