Cancel Microsoft Teams in the Microsoft 365 admin center from Billing, then Your products: select the subscription and choose Cancel subscription or turn off recurring billing. It takes about 2 minutes. Under an MCA account, a prorated refund is available only within 7 days of start or renewal; later, turning off recurring billing keeps access until the term ends.

Sign in as a billing-capable admin. In Simplified view select Subscriptions. In Dashboard view go to Billing > Your products.
Select Microsoft Teams Essentials, Microsoft Teams Enterprise or Microsoft Teams Premium, matching the SKU you bought. Do not use this flow for consumer Microsoft 365.
On the subscription details page, select Cancel subscription. If you are inside the grace period, choose a reason and select Cancel subscription again. If an MCA account is outside the seven-day window, the pane tells you to edit recurring billing: select Off, then Save.
Turning off recurring billing is not an immediate cancel. The subscription stays active until the expiration date on Your products.
Home users who want paid Teams features buy Microsoft 365 Personal, Family or Premium, which is a different product.
MCA accounts get a prorated credit or refund only within seven days of start or renewal. After that, turn off recurring billing and keep access until the term ends. MOSA accounts can cancel online with 25 or fewer licenses and receive a prorated credit or refund.
If you bought through a Microsoft representative or reseller, contact that seller. MCA partner purchases have seven days for a prorated refund. A Microsoft-seller proposal order is not eligible for the self-serve seven-day policy.

Teams Essentials states a 7-day cancellation window for a prorated refund after the paid subscription begins, paying only for what you use. MCA billing accounts can cancel with a prorated credit or refund only within seven days of start or renewal; after that, turn off recurring billing. MOSA accounts receive a prorated credit or refund when they cancel. An annual subscription paid monthly keeps monthly charges for the rest of the term if you only stop renewal.
Teams Essentials is a standalone SKU. To move to a Microsoft 365 business plan, buy that plan and then cancel the Teams subscription you no longer need. Teams Premium can be canceled as its own add-on without canceling the underlying Teams license.
No pause option is documented. Turning off recurring billing leaves the subscription active until it expires.
After a paid business subscription ends it moves through Expired and Disabled before Deleted. For most offers Expired lasts 30 days and Disabled 90 days. Canceling inside the policy window can skip Expired and go to Disabled, and users lose access. Customer data left behind might be deleted after 90 days and will be deleted no later than 180 days after cancellation. Explicitly deleting a subscription deletes SharePoint Online and OneDrive content immediately.
No. Microsoft still sells standalone Teams Essentials and Teams Enterprise. Teams Premium is an add-on that needs a paid Teams license. Home users who want paid Teams features buy Microsoft 365, which is a different product.
