How do I cancel Linode?

Short answer
Cancel Linode in Cloud Manager Account Settings: click Close Account, confirm both boxes, enter your email, and click Close Account again. It takes about 5 minutes, and services are marked for deletion immediately. A full refund is documented if you cancel within the first 7 days.

Akamai Cloud compute still sold as Linodes: virtual machines, storage and related cloud services on Cloud Manager. This guide covers every place the subscription can live - the website and team plans - plus what happens to refunds, pausing and your data afterwards.

Cloud Manager is at cloud.linode.com. The platform is Akamai Cloud, formerly Linode.

Remove services or keep the account
You do not have to close the account to stop recurring charges. Delete Linodes and other paid services in Cloud Manager if you want to keep the login.

Open Account Settings
Log in to Cloud Manager and open Account Settings under Administration.

Click Close Account
Under the Close Account panel, click Close Account.

Confirm Close Account
Check both confirmation boxes, enter your email, optionally add comments or a 7-day refund request, then click Close Account again. Past-due and uninvoiced balances are charged immediately.
Closing the account permanently deletes Linodes, volumes, DNS records and user accounts. You cannot log in afterwards.

If the account is in an Akamai parent and child relationship, contact the Akamai account team. That case has no self-serve Close Account path.

Four questions people ask before they cancelCan I get my money back?
If you cancel the account within the first 7 days, Akamai says you are likely eligible for a full refund of service charges paid with a valid payment method, not an account credit or promo code. Other refunds of a positive balance exclude promo credits, apply only to payments from the last 180 days, and deduct a $5 processing fee except for that first-7-days cancellation refund.
Is there a cheaper way to stay?
You can resize a Linode to another plan at any time. There is no free compute plan after you close the account. Removing every paid service stops recurring charges while the account stays open.
Can I pause instead of cancel?
No account-level pause is documented. Any service present on the account keeps accruing charges even when powered off.
What happens to my account data?
Closing the account immediately marks all services for deletion and permanently removes Linodes, volumes, DNS records and user accounts. Removing a Linode makes its data irretrievable and deletes its Backup snapshots. A Recovery Image is created only when the Linode has been active at least 24 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to close the Linode account to stop billing?
No. You can delete paid services and keep the account if you may use it later.
When does closing a Linode account take effect?
Immediately. Services are marked for deletion and you can no longer log in to Cloud Manager.
Can I get a Linode refund?
A full refund is documented if you cancel within the first 7 days and paid with a valid payment method. Other positive-balance refunds can incur a $5 processing fee.
Does powering off a Linode stop charges?
No. Any service present on the account keeps accruing charges, including powered-off Linodes.
What happens to my data if I close the account?
Linodes, volumes, DNS records and user accounts are permanently lost.
