Refunds, downgrades, pausing and your data

Four questions people ask before they cancel
Can I get my money back?

Employer Terms say Service Fees are non-refundable unless Gusto states otherwise, and fees apply for any full or partial month enrolled. Gusto bills retroactively, so the final invoice arrives the month after you cancel. Canceling after the fifth, or after running payroll that month, bills the full month. If you cancel on or before the fifth and do not run payroll that month, contact support via the help icon about a refund.

Case by case
Is there a cheaper way to stay?

You can change plan once per month from Plan & billing > Change plan. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades and removed add-ons take effect on the first of the next month, and that month still bills at the previous plan.

Can I pause instead of cancel?

Gusto says there is no option to pause the subscription. Seasonal businesses should keep the account active so Gusto continues to file, or skip payrolls in the off season.

What happens to my account data?

After cancel, admins can still view company forms, reports, employee information and past payrolls, and workers can still see paystubs and forms. Gusto usually cannot delete accounts that have bank transactions. Personal-data requests go through Gusto's Privacy Request Portal; Gusto keeps certain records for legal and tax reasons.
