# How to cancel WordPress.com

Cancel a WordPress.com plan from Billing, then Active Upgrades, by clicking Cancel in Cancel subscription. It takes about 2 minutes and the plan stays active until expiry. Canceling does not refund; annual plans have 14 days and monthly plans have 7 days if you remove the plan and claim the refund.

## Cancel in a web browser

> Canceling stops auto-renewal. Removing the subscription ends it immediately and is required for an eligible refund or to delete the site.

1. **Open My WordPress.com account, then Billing** Hover over your name, select My WordPress.com account, then open Billing.
2. **Open Active Upgrades** Select Active Upgrades and click the subscription to open Purchase Settings.
3. **Click Cancel in Cancel subscription** Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel in the Cancel subscription section. Review what you will lose, select both confirmation checkboxes, then click Cancel subscription.
4. **Complete the cancellation survey** Finish the survey until you receive confirmation. Canceling disables auto-renewal. The subscription stays active until its expiry date.

## Cancel a team plan

1. **Only the purchaser can cancel** Only the user who purchased the subscription can cancel it. If another site member bought the plan, they must cancel from their account, or contact support if the form errors.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** Canceling does not issue a refund. To claim an eligible refund, select Remove plan and claim refund, then Continue removal. Annual, two-year and three-year plans are refundable within 14 days of purchase or renewal. Monthly plans are refundable within 7 days. Refunds are not prorated. Refunds usually take 7 to 10 business days.
- **Pausing:** WordPress.com documents no plan pause. Turning off Enable auto-renew or canceling keeps the plan active until expiry.
- **Downgrading:** Within the refund period you can downgrade immediately and receive the price difference. After the refund period, schedule a downgrade from Change plan. The current plan stays active until the renewal date, then the lower plan starts. Canceling entirely returns the site to a free WordPress.com site.
- **Account data:** Canceling a plan does not delete the site. Posts, pages and media stay. The site reverts to a free site with ads, a .wordpress.com address, and free storage limits. Deleting a site is separate: remove purchases first, then Settings, Delete site. A deleted site can be restored for 30 days.
