# How to cancel Spotify Premium

Cancel Spotify Premium on the web: sign in, open Manage your plan, select Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation flow. It takes about 2 to 5 minutes and the paid plan stays active until the next billing date, when the account changes to Spotify Free. Cancellation normally does not produce a refund.

Spotify's paid music, podcast and audiobook plans for individuals, students, couples and households.

## Cancel in a web browser

> Duo and Family plan managers cancel the whole plan; invited members can only remove themselves. Basic plans cannot be selected again after cancellation.

1. **Open the Spotify account** Sign in to the Spotify account that pays for the plan and open Manage your plan.
2. **Choose Cancel subscription** Select Cancel subscription for the active Premium or Basic plan.
3. **Complete the confirmation** Follow the confirmation flow and check the date the account will change to Spotify Free.
4. **Check for partner billing** If the account lists a payment partner, use that provider's cancellation route instead.

> **Warning:** If Payment shows a mobile, internet or other partner, cancel with that partner instead.

## Cancel on Android

> Use Google Play subscriptions only when Google Play is listed as the payment provider.

1. **Open Google Play subscriptions** If Google Play owns billing, open Subscriptions in Google Play while signed in to the Google Account that pays for Spotify.
2. **Select Spotify** Choose the Spotify subscription from the active subscriptions list.
3. **Cancel and confirm** Tap Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen instructions.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** Cancelling Spotify Premium does not refund the current paid period; the account normally stays Premium until that period ends. Partner payments, including legacy iTunes billing, are handled by that provider.
- **Pausing:** No pause or subscription-hold option is documented on Spotify's reviewed US plan, cancellation, billing, Basic and support pages.
- **Downgrading:** At the end of a paid billing period the account changes to Spotify Free and keeps playlists and saved music. A zero-price trial changes to Free immediately when cancelled. A cancelled Basic legacy plan cannot be reactivated.
- **Account data:** Closing the account is separate from cancelling Premium. Spotify allows reactivation for seven days, then starts deletion, subject to legal, fraud and dispute retention. The same email can be used for a new account after 14 days, and closing the account removes access to purchased audiobooks and future-event tickets.

## FAQ

**When does Spotify Premium cancellation take effect?**

A paid plan remains active until the next billing date, then the account changes to Spotify Free. A zero-price trial changes to Free immediately.

**Who can cancel Spotify Duo or Family?**

Only the plan manager can cancel the whole plan. A plan member can remove themselves, but that does not cancel the manager's subscription.

**How do I cancel partner-billed Spotify?**

Check the payment provider shown in the Spotify account and cancel with that partner instead.

**Will I lose playlists after cancelling Spotify Premium?**

No. The account changes to Spotify Free and keeps playlists and saved music. Closing the account is a separate action.

**Can I return to Spotify Basic after cancelling?**

No. Spotify says eligible Basic subscribers cannot select Basic again after cancellation.

**Can a closed Spotify account be restored?**

Spotify provides a seven-day reactivation window before deletion proceeds. The same email can be used for a new account after 14 days.
