# How to cancel Render

Cancel Render by downgrading from your workspace Billing page in the Render Dashboard: click Update Plan, choose the Hobby (free) plan and confirm, then suspend or delete paid services to stop compute charges. It takes about 2 minutes and the plan change applies immediately, with no end-of-cycle grace. Render's terms state there are no refunds for cancellation or unused subscription time.

## Cancel in a web browser

> Render has two cost layers: the flat workspace plan and per-second compute for each paid service. Ending the plan alone does not stop compute charges.

1. **Open your workspace's Billing page** In the Render Dashboard, open the workspace dropdown in the top-left corner and select Billing, or go directly to dashboard.render.com/billing.
2. **Click Update Plan** It sits under the Plan section.
3. **Choose the Hobby (free) plan** Click Choose on the plan you want. Enterprise plan changes go through Render sales instead.
4. **Review the downgrade and confirm** Review the feature changes, then click Confirm. The plan change takes effect immediately.
5. **Suspend or delete paid services to stop compute charges** Downgrading does not remove services, and paid instances bill per second while running. Tick the checkbox next to each service and click Suspend in the action menu, or delete what you no longer need.

> **Warning:** The plan change applies immediately - there is no end-of-cycle grace. Suspend or delete paid services in the same sitting or they keep billing.

## Cancel a team plan

1. **Downgrade from Scale as the Org Owner** Only an Org Owner can downgrade an organization. From the organization's Workspaces page, click the … menu next to the workspace labeled Primary.
2. **Open Workspace settings, then Billing** Select the new plan (Pro or Hobby).
3. **Complete the required prerequisites** If prompted: delete secondary workspaces, reassign Billing/Viewer/Contributor members to Developer or Admin, and delete inbound IP rules.
4. **Review the impact and confirm** Render deletes the organization and its configuration (SSO, SCIM, domain capture); the primary workspace continues standalone on the new plan.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** Render's Terms of Service contain an explicit No Refunds clause: you may cancel at any time, but there are no refunds for cancellation and no refund or exchange for unused subscription time. The $1 card verification hold when adding a card is returned automatically.
- **Pausing:** Services can be suspended and resumed, including in bulk (checkbox → Suspend in the action menu). Compute bills per second only while a service runs, so suspending stops its compute charges. Suspended services still count toward Hobby's 25-service cap, and the Pro/Scale workspace fee is only waived for a month with no services and no activity.
- **Downgrading:** Downgrade via Billing → Update Plan; it takes effect immediately and existing resources stay. Overages on the new plan bill at $0.15 per extra GB of bandwidth and $0.25 per extra custom domain per month. Hobby caps at 25 services (suspended ones count) and cannot have team members. Paid databases keep running - and billing - after a plan downgrade.
- **Account data:** You are responsible for exporting data before account termination. Free Postgres databases expire 30 days after creation, with a 14-day grace period before deletion. Logical backups are kept 7 days on all plans; point-in-time recovery covers 3 days on Hobby and 7 on paid plans.

## FAQ

**Will downgrading to Hobby delete my services?**

No. Existing resources are not removed when you switch plans; usage beyond the new plan's limits bills as overage. Hobby caps at 25 total services.

**Do suspended services still cost money?**

Compute bills per second only while a service runs, so suspending stops its compute charges. The Pro/Scale plan fee itself is only waived for a month with no services and no activity.

**Can I get a refund for unused subscription time?**

**What happens to a free Postgres database?**

**I was on the old per-seat Professional plan. Where did it go?**

In April 2026 Render replaced per-seat plans with flat fees: Professional became Pro ($25 flat) and Organization became Scale ($499 flat). Remaining legacy workspaces migrated automatically on 1 August 2026, and moving to a new plan is permanent.
