# How to cancel New Relic

A Standard or Pro pay-as-you-go organization cancels New Relic from the user menu via Manage your plan, then Plans and pricing and Downgrade to free. It takes about 2 minutes, and pay-as-you-go billing covers only usage before cancellation, while long-term contracts go through the account representative. Fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable by default, and committed fees remain payable.

## Cancel in a web browser

1. **Open Manage your plan** For a Standard or Pro pay-as-you-go organization, open the user menu and click Manage your plan.
2. **Open Plans and pricing** Select Plans and pricing.
3. **Choose Downgrade to free** Under Free pricing, hover over Downgrade to free and click the button that appears.
4. **Submit the downgrade** Enter a cancellation reason, accept the terms-of-service checkbox and click Submit. Pay-as-you-go billing covers only usage before cancellation.

> **Warning:** Reducing data ingest is separate from cancelling. Stop unwanted agents and integrations if usage charges could continue during the process.

## Cancel a team plan

> Long-term Pro and Enterprise contracts require the account representative and remain subject to the order form.

1. **Contract customers contact their representative** Pro or Enterprise customers on a long-term contract must talk to their New Relic account representative to downgrade.
2. **Give written notice where required** New Relic allows termination through the service or written notice to billing@newrelic.com. Contract auto-renewal generally requires notice at least 30 days before the current term expires.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** Fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable unless an order form says otherwise or law requires it. Pay-as-you-go customers pay only for usage before cancellation. Commitment customers remain responsible for committed fees, and early downgrade is charged through the current term unless the order form states otherwise.
- **Pausing:** No subscription pause or billing-hold option is documented. New Relic instead documents reducing or stopping data ingest and uninstalling agents or integrations to reduce usage without cancelling.
- **Downgrading:** Standard and Pro pay-as-you-go organizations can downgrade to Free from Manage your plan. Pro or Enterprise organizations with long-term contracts must contact their account representative. Free-edition usage limits then apply.
- **Account data:** Cancelling an account disables it but leaves it listed under Cancelled accounts; access grants are severed and API keys become inactive. Organization deletion is separate and requires preparation. Terminating all services can delete passwords, files and data. Default retention is at least eight days, while Data Plus can add up to 90 days for most data types.
