# How to cancel Neon

Cancel Neon by opening Billing in the Neon Console, selecting Change plan and downgrading the organization to the Free plan. It takes about 2 minutes, though the platform terms require cancelling within 14 business days before the subscription month ends, and a final in-arrears invoice still follows. Neon publishes no refund policy; usage-based billing means you only pay for usage already consumed.

Serverless Postgres platform (part of Databricks) with autoscaling, database branching and scale-to-zero compute.

## Cancel in a web browser

> Neon's paid plans are usage-based with no monthly minimum, billed in arrears - the final invoice for consumed usage arrives around the 1st of the following month.

1. **Open the Billing page** In the Neon Console, select your organization from the breadcrumb menu at the top left, then select Billing - or go directly to console.neon.tech/app/billing.
2. **Select Change plan** Downgrade to the Free plan. Plans apply at the organization level, so this stops paid billing for the whole organization.
3. **Remove anything over the Free plan limits** Neon requires removing projects, branches or data that exceed the Free allowances (100 projects, 10 branches per project, 0.5 GB storage per project). Compute must restart before the new limits apply.
4. **Do not rely on deleting projects alone** Neon's docs warn that removing all projects does not stop plan fees - you keep being invoiced until you downgrade to Free.

> **Warning:** Per the platform terms, self-service subscriptions renew month to month unless cancelled within 14 business days before the current subscription month ends.

## Cancel a team plan

1. **Legacy Enterprise plans go through support** Admins on current plans use the same Billing → Change plan flow. Downgrading from a legacy Enterprise plan requires opening a support ticket.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** Neon publishes no refund policy. Paid plans are usage-based, invoiced monthly in arrears, so you only pay for usage already consumed rather than prepaying; the SLA states service credits for downtime never entitle you to a refund.
- **Pausing:** No billing pause is documented. Scale-to-zero suspends compute automatically after inactivity so no CU-hours accrue while idle - a cost-saving feature, not a subscription pause.
- **Downgrading:** Downgrade via Billing → Change plan, removing anything over the Free plan's allowances first; compute must restart for new limits to apply. The docs do not state the exact moment a console downgrade takes effect; the platform terms describe month-to-month renewal with a 14-business-day cancellation window.
- **Account data:** On Free, exceeding limits suspends a project without deleting data; it resumes next month or on upgrade. Deleting your account requires leaving or deleting all organizations first, then a 30-day grace period applies (logging in reactivates); after 30 days the account and all data are permanently deleted. Export your projects first - Neon states that is your responsibility.

## FAQ

**Does deleting all my projects stop Neon from billing me?**

No. Removing all projects does not stop plan fees - you keep being invoiced until you downgrade to the Free plan from the Billing page.

**When does my cancellation take effect?**

The platform terms say self-service subscriptions renew month to month unless cancelled within 14 business days before the subscription month expires. The final in-arrears invoice arrives around the 1st of the following month.

**What happens to projects that exceed the Free plan limits?**

You must remove them when downgrading. Once on Free, exceeding a limit suspends the affected project rather than billing you - and suspension does not delete data.

**Can I get a refund for what I already paid?**

Neon publishes no refund policy. Because billing is usage-based and in arrears with no monthly minimum, you only ever pay for usage already consumed.

**Do I keep anything on the Free plan?**

Yes - it is a permanent $0 plan with up to 100 projects, 10 branches per project, 0.5 GB storage per project and 100 CU-hours of compute per project per month.
