# How to cancel MongoDB Atlas

Cancel MongoDB Atlas from the Clusters page: sign in to Atlas, open the project, turn off Termination Protection if needed, then choose Terminate from the cluster action menu and confirm the cluster name for every billable deployment. It takes about 5 minutes and takes effect when the cluster is terminated. No general self-serve refund window is documented for ordinary usage charges.

## Cancel in a web browser

> Follow the official web flow and check every billable resource before finishing.

1. **Open the Clusters page** Sign in to Atlas, open the project and go to the Clusters page.
2. **Disable termination protection if needed** Open Edit Configuration, expand Additional Settings, turn Termination Protection off and apply the change.
3. **Choose Terminate** Open the cluster action menu and select Terminate.
4. **Confirm the cluster name** Enter the cluster name and confirm Terminate. Repeat for every billable deployment.

> **Warning:** Terminating a cluster normally deletes its backups unless eligible Cloud Backup snapshots are retained. Account deletion requires no outstanding invoices, clusters, projects or organizations and can take up to two weeks.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** MongoDB Atlas does not document a general self-serve refund window for ordinary usage charges.
- **Pausing:** M10 and larger dedicated clusters can be paused for up to 30 days and are charged for storage while paused. They resume automatically after 30 days. Flex clusters cannot be paused.
- **Downgrading:** You can change a deployment tier instead of terminating it. To stop deployment charges, terminate every billable cluster.
- **Account data:** Terminating a cluster normally deletes its backups unless eligible Cloud Backup snapshots are retained. Account deletion requires no outstanding invoices, clusters, projects or organizations and can take up to two weeks.
