# How to cancel Heap

Cancel a paid Heap subscription by sending 45 days written notice to dealdesk@heap.io. It takes about 5 minutes to send, and paid access lasts through the current term. Heap does not publish a standard refund for a normal cancellation.

## Cancel in a web browser

> Paid Heap cancellation is a written notice to dealdesk@heap.io, not an in-app Cancel button.

1. **Confirm the account is on a paid plan** Heap documents a different close path for free accounts. Paid auto-renewing subscriptions need written non-renewal notice.
2. **Email dealdesk@heap.io** Send 45-day prior written notice to terminate future renewals. Heap names dealdesk@heap.io as the address.
3. **Use Heap through the current term** Paid access lasts until the end of the subscription term. Accrued fees remain payable.
4. **Request account closure after the term if needed** Once services have ended, request closure via Heap's Get support page if you also want the account and data removed.

> **Warning:** Contentsquare has a separate self-serve cancel flow for Contentsquare product plans. Heap's own help article still names the Heap email path for paid Heap accounts.

## Cancel a team plan

> Contract customers should also follow the order form and the MSA notice addresses.

1. **If the subscription does not auto-renew** Heap says services then expire at the end of the subscription term without a separate non-renewal email.
2. **Send legal notices to the MSA addresses when required** Heap's Master Services Agreement says notices of termination or intention not to renew must go to ar@heap.io, with a copy to legal@heap.io.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** Heap's cancel article says accrued fees must be paid and does not describe a standard refund for a normal cancellation. The Heap Master Services Agreement refunds prepaid unused fees only if the customer terminates for Heap's uncured material breach, or as a warranty or infringement remedy.
- **Pausing:** Heap documents no subscription pause.
- **Downgrading:** Heap publishes a Free plan with up to 10k monthly sessions. The paid-account cancel article does not document a self-serve downgrade button or an automatic move to Free after non-renewal.
- **Account data:** After paid services end, Heap says it will close the account and remove data when you request closure via Get support. The Heap MSA allows a Customer Data export before termination or within 30 days after. Heap also deletes data older than 37 months, or older than the plan data-history limit if that limit is greater.
