# How to cancel Google Cloud

Close a self-serve Google Cloud billing account from Account management in the Cloud Billing console: choose the account and click Close billing account. It takes about 5 minutes and stops billable services in linked projects. Google bills remaining usage and does not refund fees except unused postpay funds when eligible.

Google public cloud billed pay as you go for compute, storage, and other Google Cloud services, with no up-front fees and no termination charges.

## Cancel in a web browser

> This is the Cloud Billing account for Google Cloud, not Google Workspace or Firebase.

1. **Open Account management** In the Google Cloud console, go to the Account management page for Cloud Billing and choose the Cloud Billing account you want to close.
2. **Pay any balance and fix payment details** You cannot close a billing account until you pay any previous balance or fix outdated payment information. You need the Billing Account Administrator role.
3. **Click Close billing account** At the top of the page, click Close billing account. After you close it, Google bills you for usage costs accrued before you canceled. That is the last bill unless you reopen the account.

> **Warning:** After creation, Cloud Billing accounts cannot be deleted. Close stops services. You cannot close an account with an unpaid balance or broken payment details.

## Cancel a team plan

1. **Close an invoiced account through sales or billing support** If the Cloud Billing account is invoiced, you cannot close it in the console. Contact your Google Cloud sales specialist or Cloud Billing Support.
2. **Optionally disable billing on each project first** To stop new charges without closing the billing account, unlink each project: on My Projects or Account management, open Actions and select Disable billing. Google Cloud and Maps services in that project stop.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** After you close the billing account, Google bills usage accrued before cancel. Unless expressly stated otherwise or required by law, termination does not oblige Google to refund fees. Unused promotional credits are not refunded. Unused funds in a linked Postpay payments account may be eligible for a refund request from Payment overview.
- **Pausing:** No billing-account pause is documented. You can disable billing on each linked project to stop new charges without closing the billing account.
- **Downgrading:** Closing an active Cloud Billing account stops all billable services in any linked projects. Cloud Billing accounts cannot be canceled or deleted after creation. A closed self-serve account can be reopened from Account management after payment issues are resolved, which starts charges again for linked projects.
- **Account data:** Cloud Billing account information is retained for reporting and auditing even after close. Project deletion is separate and can include an internal recovery period of up to 30 days. Google Cloud commits to delete customer data within a maximum of about 180 days.
