## Cancel in a web browser

> This flow turns off automatic renewal. The paid plan remains active through the current subscription term.

1. **Sign in to the Customers Portal** Open the GitLab Customers Portal and go to Subscriptions & purchases.
2. **Find the subscription that auto-renews** Locate the relevant subscription card and confirm that it shows Auto-renews on followed by the renewal date.
3. **Choose Cancel subscription** Open Subscription actions on that card and select Cancel subscription.
4. **Confirm the cancellation** Select a reason, optionally add feedback, and select Cancel subscription again.

> **Warning:** The current Subscription Agreement sets a 30-day pre-expiry notice cutoff, so submit the request early.

## Cancel a team plan

> GitLab.com subscriptions apply to a top-level group. Invoice and custom-plan customers should also check their order form.

1. **Use an authorized subscription contact** A subscription contact can renew, cancel, or transfer the subscription. Contact GitLab Support if the contact must be changed or the Customers Portal cannot be accessed.
2. **Give notice before the renewal cutoff** GitLab's current Subscription Agreement permits opting out through the interface or written notice until 30 days before the term expires.
3. **Download the renewal invoice** Renewal invoices remain available from the Customers Portal Invoices page.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** GitLab's current Subscription Agreement says paid or due fees, including prepaid amounts, are non-refundable unless the agreement expressly provides otherwise. A prorated refund applies when a customer terminates for GitLab's uncured material breach.
- **Pausing:** No customer-controlled subscription pause is documented in the official pricing, subscription-management, or current Subscription Agreement pages reviewed on 2026-08-08. The documented option is to stop renewal.
- **Downgrading:** After a GitLab.com paid subscription expires, paid features stop but Free-tier features remain available. If renewal payment fails, GitLab allows 14 days to renew before downgrading the tier.
- **Account data:** Stopping renewal does not delete the GitLab.com namespace because it continues on Free features. Account deletion is separate and deletes projects in the user's namespace; pending account deletion generally finishes in one or two hours but can take up to seven days for accounts tied to contributions.

## FAQ

**When does GitLab cancellation take effect?**

The subscription expires at the end of its current term unless renewed. GitLab.com then removes paid features while Free features remain available.

**Can GitLab refund unused annual time?**

Not for an ordinary cancellation. Fees are non-refundable except for remedies expressly stated in the Subscription Agreement.

**Will canceling GitLab delete projects?**

No. Stopping renewal leaves the GitLab.com namespace on Free features after expiry. User-account deletion is a separate action.

**Can a GitLab subscription be paused?**

No customer-controlled pause is documented in the official subscription and terms pages reviewed.

**How early should an invoice customer cancel?**

The current Subscription Agreement requires notice no later than 30 days before the subscription term expires.
