# How to cancel GitBook

Cancel GitBook from Organization settings: open Billing, click Manage Billing to open the Stripe portal, then click Cancel plan and confirm. It takes a few minutes, and the plan stays active until the billing period ends. GitBook does not offer refunds, including for annual plans canceled mid-term.

## Cancel in a web browser

> Admins can also switch plans from Organization settings under Billing before opening Stripe.

1. **Open Organization settings** Only organization admins can manage billing. Click the settings icon at the bottom of the sidebar, then click [organization name] settings.
2. **Open Billing, then Manage Billing** Click Billing. Click Manage Billing to open the Stripe billing portal.
3. **Click Cancel plan twice** If Cancel plan is shown, click it, then click Cancel plan again to confirm. The plan stays active until the end of the billing period and will not renew.

## Cancel a team plan

> If Cancel plan is missing in Stripe, contact support once. Do not repeat the self-serve flow.

1. **If Cancel plan is missing, contact GitBook Support** If Organization settings, Billing, Manage Billing does not show Cancel plan, contact GitBook Support once with the organization name, account email, plan, renewal date and latest invoice. Support can cancel or schedule cancellation.
2. **Enterprise invoicing** Payment by invoice is only on Enterprise. Those contracts follow the Order Form: you may terminate at any time and keep using the service through the prepaid period, with no refund of prepaid fees.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** GitBook's pricing FAQ and terms say it does not offer refunds. Annual plans are paid 12 months up-front with no refund if canceled mid-term. Contact support@gitbook.com only if you believe you were charged in error.
- **Pausing:** No subscription pause option is documented in the current cancellation, billing-policy or organization-settings pages.
- **Downgrading:** Organization Billing lets admins switch plans with an upgrade or downgrade button under each plan. Mid-cycle site-plan changes are prorated. After a voluntary cancel, the current plan stays active until the billing period ends. A Free or Basic site remains available afterward.
- **Account data:** Canceling the plan does not delete the organization or content. Deleting an account or organization permanently deletes associated data. GitBook terms allow a Customer Data export for up to 60 days after agreement termination. Trash retains deleted content for 7 days.
