## Cancel in a web browser

> Aiven bills each running service hourly through a billing group, not a named seat subscription.

1. **Sign in to the Aiven Console** Open console.aiven.io with an account that can manage services in the project.
2. **Open Services** From the project, on the left-side menu, click Services.
3. **Power off a service to stop new charges** For each paid service, click Actions, then Power off service. Powering off stops new hourly charges immediately. The minimum charge is one hour.
4. **Or delete the service** Open the service, then on the top-right corner click Actions, then Delete service, and confirm. Deletion is blocked while termination protection is on. Deletion is permanent.
5. **Remove leftover static IPs** Static IP addresses are not removed when a service is powered off or deleted and keep generating their usual costs.

> **Warning:** Powered-off services are automatically deleted after 180 days, including backups. Static IPs keep billing until you remove them.

## Cancel a team plan

1. **Delete the project after every service is gone** Delete all services in the project, then click Settings, then Delete and Confirm.
2. **Delete the organization if you are finished** Delete all projects and organizational units. If you pay through a cloud marketplace, cancel that marketplace subscription first. Click Admin, then Organization, delete each unit, then click Delete and confirm.
3. **Delete the user account last** Go to User information, then User profile, and click Delete account. This is irreversible and permanently removes your data.

## Refunds, pausing, downgrades and your data

- **Refunds:** Aiven bills hourly in arrears. Terminating an individual Cloud Service in the account stops invoicing for that service from that day onward. Fees already owed until that date remain due. No general unused-time refund is published.
- **Pausing:** Powering off a service stops new charges immediately and keeps configuration (and backups when available) on the platform. Services powered off for more than 180 days are automatically deleted, including backups.
- **Downgrading:** The pricing table lists seamless upgrade and downgrade between service plans. Moving to a smaller plan or powering off reduces future hourly charges. Free-tier services can remain after paid services are removed.
- **Account data:** Service deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Unless you instruct otherwise, Aiven deletes customer data within 90 days of Agreement termination or after the service's maximum retention. Powered-off services older than 180 days are deleted with their backups.

## FAQ

**Does powering off an Aiven service stop the bill?**

Yes. Powering off stops new hourly charges immediately. You still pay for hours already used, with a one-hour minimum.

**When does deleting a service stop invoicing?**

Aiven's terms say terminating an individual Cloud Service in the account stops invoicing for that service from that day onward. Usage already incurred remains payable.

**Can I get a refund from Aiven?**

Aiven does not publish a general refund for unused time. Fees owed until termination become due.

**Is there a named subscription to cancel?**

No. Aiven bills each running service through a billing group. Stopping charges means powering off or deleting every paid service and leftover static IPs.

**Can I keep using Aiven for free after I cancel?**

Yes. Free-tier PostgreSQL, MySQL, OpenSearch, Kafka and Valkey services can keep running without a credit card.
